Can I expect to get from my Rebel XT. I can't wait to upgrade but want it to last at least another year... In 3 months, I've up to 3,500 clicks. How long does the shutter hold out on these typically??

At that rate, you'll be good for about another 6 or 7 years at least ;)

thanks! If I average 1000 a month.. I should be good for 50 months. Or 4'ish years. But with all the sessions I have lined up this summer, who knows! lol Thanks for that info!!!

The 'rated' shutter life is an average expectancy. Some don't last nearly that long and some last much longer. So you can't really calculate how long it will last...but I'm pretty confident that you will be OK for a long while yet.

D3 is rated at 300,000 actuations
F100 is rated at 100,000 actuations
D100 is rated at 100,000 actuations
D200 is rated at 100,000 actuations
D300 is rated at 100,000 actuations
D700 is rated at 150,000 actuations

In general, entry level models by both Canon AND Nikon are rated for 50,000, semi-pro models are rated for 100,000, and pro models are rated for between 250,000 to 300,000 actuations. But Big Mike is right on the money when he says regardless the rating it may be far less or far more.

I have D40, how do I find out the number of my actuations so far?
