Just a friendly reminder to not post other's work directly. Just post a link to it.

Sent from my HTC Glacier

saved them on my computer years ago , can't remember where they are from :(

On the 2nd picture, I'd assume pre-focus in manual mode.

really really nice lenses. Shallow DOF and excellent background lighting. ;)

I don't believe images turn out like that straight from the camera...I would suspect a lot of PP

Two different set ups and techniques to get those shots.

Looking at the exif info attached to the first one it looks like it might have been shot with the Canon 60mm 2.8 macro lens, a very nice piece of glass. A good set up with gelled lighting and or white balance adjusted. Shot on a tripod at 2.5 seconds with f6.3 gives a shallow dof with this lens on macro shots, but closed down enough to show a bit of shape from the shutter blades in the specular highlights. It's interesting that he used aperture priority to get his exposure. If you have more of this guys work it is easy to find him since his copyright is also included in the exif info.. "Artist Neil Kaye Copyright = eyedesign.deviantart.com".

Depending on what country you are in, that might constitute copyright infringement.

Could I be sued for using somebody else's work? How about quotes or samples?
If you use a copyrighted work without authorization, the owner may be entitled to bring an infringement action against you. There are circumstances under the fair use doctrine where a quote or a sample may be used without permission. However, in cases of doubt, the Copyright Office recommends that permission be obtained.

KMH, the OP isn't really "using" them in a copyright infringement sort of way. I save pics from the net all the time, if the artist didn't protect against saving, that's their fault.

It's still a violation. There is NO WAY to 'protect against saving' any more than it's possible to keep someone from using a copy machine to reproduce something.

Just viewing this thread has saved those images onto my computer. It's a temp folder, but they are saved nonetheless. KmH thinks he is this forum's version of the Gestapo. When he isn't telling somebody that an image posted on a forum to ask how it is done is a copyright infringement(which it's not), he is arguing about grammar.

As far as the shots, gelled lighting, good timing, an extensive set up, and quite a bit of post processing would be my guess.

hmm, id have to agree with 480, although to make a reference to them with proper credit i can't imagine that's infringement

There is a lot of copyright urban legend and just plain wrong copyright information out there. Note: I always post a link to the pertinent US copyright law or other source, so people know the source I use for the information I am giving them.

Acknowledging the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for obtaining permission.

The copyright owner has exclusive control over any copies made. There is civil copyright infringement which doesn't require making any money from the infringement, and criminal copyright infringement, which does entail infringement done for profit.

A copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state to the creator of an original work or their assignee for a limited period of time in exchange for public disclosure of the work. This includes the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work...
Copyright - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following:
• reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords...

What are you talking about KmH? Are you implying that one cannot save a photo to one's hard disk for personal use, without it constituting copyright infringement? I find that laughable. Totally laughable. Got any case law to back that up?
