How To Arrange A Shoot

Hello. I looking at doing a project, shooting the diverse range of small local businesses and the characters who run and work in them.Thing is, I've never done anything like this before. My idea is to plan which shops Id like to include (accounting for rejection) then to go to each one first thing in the morning when they are quiet and explain what Im doing and ask if I could take their shot...and if not the whenever is convenient.Does this sound about right or should I approach it in a different way?

Yep. In person, camera in hand, sounds like the best approach.

Bring along a flash with an ettl cord so that you can master the varied lighting situations. Maybe hide it in your back pocket at first, lol.

Never heard of an ettl cord before. There is so much I need to learn!
