How to use Photoshop CS5.......

I am a noob when it comes to Photoshop but i am not all that dumb at it. When I hear people in here talk about using an original picture to fix some mistakes on an HDR, how and what are you guys talking about. So for instance if I were to open an HDR compiled in photomatix, and loaded it into photoshop and then opened the original as well how would i layer those 2 pictures together and fix the mistakes from the HDR?

When you open the original HDR it is your base layer. Then you can open any or all of the other original shots and each exposure would be on a separate layer. Then you can use whatever part of each layer you want to use. Deleting the rest. Flatten your image and thats it. When erasing use a soft eraser.
