How would i achive an image simmilar to this?

I want to do somethig similar but with my girl and her tattoo

..any ideas?
Lighting? Background?

When looking at a photo and wanting to create something similar, you need to reverse engineer the lighting.

In this case, the light is very soft (large and/or close to the subject). I can tell because of how the lit area slowly transitions into shadow.
The light is also off-camera. It's to the side of the subject, actually I'd say that it's behind the subject and to the side. This way, the light hits the side of the subject and only wraps around the front a little bit.
It has a rather high ratio...meaning that the lit areas are well exposed but the shadows are nice and dark. (no fill light).
As for the water, they may have had to oil her skin so that the water would bead up like that.

Ok ill give that a go around and see what happens....thanks mike! ....think an LED style light would work? I dont jave any off camera lighting yet.....

The problem with LED (and most constant style lighting) is that it probably will require you to use a longer shutter speed (or a very high ISO). Longer shutter speeds will give you motion blur and high ISO will give you noise. Noise is better than blur, but too much noise can kill the shot as well.

That's why it' so much better to use flash/strobe when shooting subjects like people. The flash can freeze the movement of the camera/subject and give you sharp shots without worrying too much about the shutter speed.

But certainly do give it a try. You'll probably have to practice a lot, so the LED might be a good start.

And a tripod should help with a shutter speed problem correct?

A tripod will stop the camera from moving...but it won't stop your GF/model from moving...so it's not the solution to this problem.

Do you have a powerfull flashlight or floodlight. Maybe aim it through a large, thin sheet at y our subject from the side and use a black sheet on the other side.
