How Waterproof Is Waterproof

I once left an Olympus E-3 with a ZD 90-250 f/2.8 out in the pouring rain for half an hour....just because. Dried it and it was perfectly okay. Pity it wasn't that great a camera photography wise.

I shot with my 1dMarkII with 24-105L at Niagara falls and got completely soaked. It survived. I wouldn't do that with a non-sealed camera but I wouldn't hesitate to go into a misty day with a non-sealed camera.

PS> Not all Canon L lenses are sealed. Don't assume.
