I would say go for it, you can always up grade if you decide photography is for you

While I'm 99% digital, I still pull out the Mamiya 645 every once in a while. My film workflow is to process it myself (mostly Tri-X in HC110, but color negative and transparency film as well), then scan it in using my old reliable Epson V500 photo scanner then process in Lightroom calling on Photoshop as needed. I do not miss the darkroom.
