moar butter plz.

looks appetizing.
(but as a NH resident, i must concur with tyler. Maine lobster FTW.)

Dear powers that be what has he done to the poor peas!!! :(

^ i see what you did there.
and i like it!

second shot is much better than the first, im with D on some of his complaints about the first, over exposed plate and reflection dont cut it for me (imho). but i do feel the water is ok where it is, the second shot is far more attractive and only thing missing is a slightly more centered composition - btw if that is a long table it would also help if the plate was where the two 'squares/diamonds' meet and try without the harsh reflection. i like the second one a lot cause of the toned down light...

It's a round table/booth. I don't have a CPOL for my 85mm, I supposed I should have broke out the 70-200, but I'm probably selling that anyways.

ah ok, it almost looked as if it was going further. its def the best shot of the two and if i was wanting to put a pic on my menu would def take the second, good work tho.

Lobster looks good. The plate's rim is grossly over-exposed, and the lobster has a foreground/background merger with the candle holder, which itself has a badly controlled reflection on one side. The glass of ice water competes for attention with the ostensible subject, the lobster tail. The food itself looks good, but the lighting and photography not so much.

Ice water is blurred, if you think it competes for attention, you could be retarded. The reflection is on purpose, if you think differently, you could be retarded. The food is real, and and acutal edible item from a high end restaurant where my friend is a manager/chef, if you think otherwise, you could be retarded. My monitor is calibrated, if you're getting anything other than an amazing photo on your screen, you could be retarded.

All in all Darrel, I think you just very well could be.

Food photography is a specialty area. What you are showing us is amateurish, Strobist-type stuff, with fundamental flaws like foreground/background attachments, and poor exposure control. The plate is over-exposed, badly. The reflection on the candle holder in the background is "attached" to the lobster. If you had access to a food stylist, or had ever worked in a commercial photography setting (I have, you obviously have NOT), or had even read a book on food photography, you would realize that the photo you asked for C&C on is, well, pretty beginner-level. Bad lighting, bad styling, and poor propping, as well as poor composition.

This shot would be ridiculed at Gourmet magazine or Bon Apetit...it's very "Strobist", and very unprofessional.
