I use a clear/UV filter on all my lenses, because I'm clumsy, have fat fingers and did I mention I'm clumsy.
Sometimes they save my lens from myself, sometimes not. But they do keep my fingers and my tee shirt when wiping dirt off the lens from actually touching the lens.
