Hypothetically Speaking of Course

So your husband/wife/SO has volunteered you to take photo's of a friends girls soccer team. You need to take at least 1 picture of all the players and staff.

The outcome will be simple Walmart/CVS type 4x6 prints, used at the after season party. You shoot in RAW using a pro body and a 2.8 70-200.

How would handle this, still shoot in RAW and then PP into smaller jpegs for putting on a CD so they can be printed, or just shoot them as jpegs to begin with.

I do like the PP options that RAW gives me, but I'm wondering if there are times where it just makes sense to shoot jpegs?

If you know your craft and are comfortable to output in a jpg, regardless of the lighting conditions and possible shadows in the face, go ahead, shoot jpg.

A pro sport photojournalist I met a year ago (he has shot the last 10 olympics and many other things) told me he only shoots JPG. His reasons are that when in Beijing and sending images back home to the editor to make the deadline, he has 0 time to process. A day's shooting for a pro sport journalist is thousands of images, so he only has time to sort through the images, select the best, and off they go. Crop in camera, exposure in camera.

Lights aren't an issue for him as there is always HD video being done which requires alot of light.

Personally, I would just shoot it RAW. If its one image, how long can that possibly take? Shoot in raw, upload, check it and save as jpgs.
