Cute kid! What's with the first frame? Was it hard to get a bead on him, er what? Second shot...hmmm...I don't like the background nor the camera orientation/framing.
draw a bead on someone or something and get a bead on someone or something 1. . Lit. to locate someone or something in the sights of a gun. Fred drew a bead on the target and pulled the trigger. The hunter drew a bead on the deer.
2. Fig. to prepare to deal with or obtain someone or something. As soon as I get a bead on how widespread the problem really is, I will set up a meeting about it.
In common parlance, when a "shooter" says, "it was almost impossible to get a bead on (him,it,the deer, the bird, the target, etc.)", it means that the desired target subject was elusive, erratic, obscured, or otherwise difficult to get a satisfactory aim or sight picture on.
#1 is cute but the lack of eye contact and the elbow chop really take away from the photo. I do love his cute little pout though. The lighting is best in this one as is the exposure and wb. I would probably crop/clone out the bright parts at the top. #2 I think you have auntie goggles. I mean that in the nicest way thoughThe lighting is very flat (did you use flash?) he is overexposed and the wb is too cool. His body is in a cute little boy pose but his face looks like you caught an awkward 1/2 blink 1/2 smile. Background is too busy.

Yes, I get the definition, but I don't know what you mean in terms of how it relates to the first image.

Because he is partially cut off and the placement of him in the frame is very strange. So I would say Derrel is wondering why it was so hard to fit him in the frame better..
Without seeing the original it's hard to say, but I've found that cutting off little bits of limbs is rarely a good plan. Even if his whole hand was hard against the edge of the frame, I think it would be better.Yes, I get the definition, but I don't know what you mean in terms of how it relates to the first image.

Oh, I have full body shots too, but I cropped this intentionally to bring the focus to his pouty face.
