I have a Nikon D3000 and an SB600 can I make this a remote flash? I have read and read and looked on here and on google but I just get confused. somme say you need the SB800 to be the master flash or IF you have other version such as the D 300, 500 , and 700 you can use it in Command mode.
what I need to know is how I can make my SB600 be the ONLY flash I use and I want to use it off camera.
Could I get away with getting a wireless trigger or cord and do that!?

PLEASE HELP!

pretty sure the d3000 cannot link to flashes. might be able to use a pocket wizard, but dont quote me on it

The D3000 doesn't have a commander mode, so yes you need triggers, a cord, or the SU-800 (I think). Triggers would probably be the cheapest/most versatile option.

The D3000 doesn't have Commander Mode and the SB600 doesn't have a sync terminal. The best alternative that comes to mind is an RF transmitter and reciever. You will also need a hotshoe with sync port that can be picked up from people like zebraflash.

you will need triggers. catcus makes cheap triggers or you can go to ebay and look up pt-04. You will need both a receiver and transmitter. You can buy them together, or sometimes its cheaper to buy separate.

Thanks everybody and Derell I read both of them trying to figure this out

If so, Iam amazed you had to ask.

Just sayin'

I have a set of cheap trigger/receivers that have worked fantastically for me. $60 for a trigger and receiver, and $30 for each additional receiver.

I could have paid a whole lot less on eBay, but I chose to buy locally instead.

YMMV.

You can get a transmitter and 3 receivers that will work with your D3000 and SB-600 right here for $60.

I know several shooters that use those and get great results.

It is worth it too look closely with those. Here you can get a set (transmitter + receiver) for 14,45$. If you want more receiver, you can get them here for 8,30$.

For a similar package of 1 trigger and 3 receivers it would cost you 31,05$!!! Make sure you look closely!

The best and cheapest way to accomplish what you want is to sell your D3000 on ebay and buy a Nikon D80 instead.

For some insane reason the D80 sells for about the same used as the D3000, even though it's basically the same camera with FAR more features.

That style of receiver is weak where the bracket attaches to the body, and tends to break right there, dumping both what's left of the receiver and your flash unit.

I agree with you 100%. I use them and they are week, but work for cheap. I usually mount my flash on my off camera cord and put the receiver at the other instead of the camera hot-shoe. That way the receiver does not support the flash and potentially break your flash.
