I thought I'd get up and attempt the challenge,
although I only got about 4-5 good photos, I think I did alright, given my basement bedroom, stacked ceiling high with boxes and other useless junk.

Where is this bloody graininess coming from?! It ruined my picture =/

Not liking the diffused glow on the strands towards the back...

Guess how I took this shot, and I'll give you a cookie ^-^

My favorite of the bunch, I absolutely love this pic.

Did you use a tripod on that first one? The shutter speed said 1/5 of a second, my program didn't tell me the ISO for some reason but that slow of a shutter speed it might have been camera shake that looks grainy because of how close your focal length was, 6mm.

I was at a very akward angle, but the camera was stabilized on the thing I was holding it.
It could be the movement though, yes. But wouldn't they put the fibers up front oof?

Hmmmm, I can't tell for certain that they are perfectly focused, that is a good point. Are those the same fibers back behind there?

Did you brighten up the picture in post? That will bring out the grain (well, noise, since it's digital and not film) every time. Darker areas of a photo will always be noisier than bright areas, which is one reason people tend to recommend "exposing to the right" (look it up). :)

Yeah, they looked pretty in focus when I zoomed in on the original.

and yes, there's actually a large bunch of them, i took the picture I posted with my camera's "Super Macro" function.

here's the whole bunch lol

and @Orions,
here is the original, no PP.
so yeah, there's still some grain. The darkening did make it more apparent though,

Huh, I would say it probably has to do with some sort of computer control function that is apart of the super-macro setting. No idea, never shot with that before. although I think the noise helped make that shot more interesting.

Hmm..
how does it make it more interesting exactly? Just curious.

It made it more abstract and difficult to be able to discern what exactly you were photographing. Through your PP of making it darker you decreased the DOF and everything that is out of focus took on a look of smoky wisps floating in the air.

Okay Kevin... I'm new to all this and decided to take your challenge. Not the best photos I've ever taken but you can see them --> Here <---

Since you've already taken your photos I'd like to up the challenge for you today.

Pick one room
Take 10 Photos
(I took five or so of each and picked the best of each one)
No flash
Use one light in the room if you want
Try using natural light or the lamp that you have
AND... the only editing you can do are straightening, cropping and resizing.
Try to do the challenge as quickly as you can but don't stress and take a bunch of crap trying to get done. I was done with the photos, cropped them and posted them in less than 70 minutes. Not very fast, but I'm trying.

I'm no pro but this exercise is helping me to learn the settings on my camera.

Hope you enjoy your challenge!

I really liked several (what's not to love about the Spartaflex camera shot? :) ), but the one that really caught my interest was the little drawer with handle. It has a sense of mystery about it as to what's in the drawer. You found some good shots around the room!
