Went to this park today that has a bunch of interest things going on. There's a big dog park, jet ski competition going on, RC plane competition going on and the everglades is within walking distance. As I was driving around the park, there was this guy and lady on the side, with a hawk. Apparently the guy is the trainer and the lady is learning to handle the hawk..... in a public park? Anyways, I stopped and waited until the hawk was away from the guy so he was not paying attention to it. He was bending down to pick something up and I called "Excuse me sir..." wanting to ask him if I can take photos just to be polite.

"NOT NOW GET OUTTA HERE!!!"

ooook.... I guess he wants to be left along.

I can understand that he may not want any distraction, but the reaction from him was a bit over the top I think.

Should I sue him for "making me feeling uncomfortable with his hawk in a public park 200ft away from me"?

I've never gotten yelled at in while living in other states. A few weeks ago I got yelled at by a grumpy old guy for telling him to stop because he's about to back into another car.
Florida is indeed a sunny and welcoming place.

People are just generally pissy......lol I deal w/ people on the phone all the time and wonder how they keep their job!!!

Actually, good things did happen today as well. So after checking out the RC plane competition (awesome stun planes competing against each other around a course), I went over the see the jet ski race. I was using my 70~300 ED non-VR lens which I've been complaining about. A guy beside me happened to have the VR version and he offered to let me try it out. So that was unexpected kindness which I really appreciate.

You should have screeched at him like an Osprey. That would have pretty much stopped him dead in his tracks, been entirely topical, and gut-wrenchingly hysterical. :)

Sue him? For yelling at you??

Your funny, why would you sue him for. Not a big deal, just some crazy person that's all.

Be thankful he just yelled at you. What, with all the crazy, wacko nut-cases out there wielding AK-47s and AR-15s.

Training a hawk - in a public park with RC planes in the air and, no doubt, little doggies just the right size for a birdy running around ;)
No wonder he was stressed

You should have just taken photos anyway. He never told you not to. He just clearly didn't want to answer your question. **** it.

I'm a falconer and don't understand why anyone would want to fly their bird in such a congested area. Besides that, if the bird flew away from him and didn't come back, he was probably trying to get it back as quickly as he could. A falconer is never not paying attention to his bird, unless he wants to loose it. At any rate, he still shouldn't have yelled at you.

Well the dog park, RC plane air field and jet ski race are all at different parts of the park, but there are still a lot of people camping and kids running around, so a lot of noise and potential distractions. The bird was leashed by a light string so it's not going to escape.

I was hoping to get a closer shot knowing that my telephoto lens isn't performing well. They were under tree shade, so that was a factor as well.

Seriously, I've lived in three countries and been to several more. US is the only place where I get yelled at for random reasons. The French just ignore you.

Last week I went to a local car meet. I was taking photo with a friend when this old guy wearing a "staff" t-shirt walked to us and said,
" Make sure you get permission from the owners before you take the photos of the cars"
My friend said," But we are not on private property..."
The man cut him off saying " DON'T TALK TO ME LIKE THAT! We leased the parking lot so this is a private property and you need permission to take photos...."

Well, my friend is a old Jewish psychologist so he went ahead and gave me a download on his diagnosis on that old guy. So yeah, it was funny.

They say bullies are often people who have been bullied before, so I feel bad for them.
