I just can't leave the tulips alone

I tend to like negative space, but this is just too much for me. Otherwise, like the cropped vase and graduated background.

I was actually going to take the crop further and go landscape. I was most caught by the tulips reaching out to the side when we normally expect them to stand upright. For me a landscape orientation highlights that feature. But then, like you said, there is no room for the ED advertisement.

I really like this crop. Quite interesting what a crop can do to our senses.

I did not add the space in post, the framing is straight out of the camera. The background gradient out of the camera did not please me, so there's quite a bit of painting in there.

In fact, the entire background is quite heavily painted.

Did you use photoshop?

I would suggest creating a new layer and then doing a gradient layer using the eye dropper to grab the bottom and top colors. Then mask out the tulips and whatnot.

I do not use photoshop, I use gimp! Your suggestion would still work, though, it translates.

After more consideration, I realize I need clarification! If you don't mind.

Are you objecting to the texture in the background, the somewhat random blobby greys and whites all over? Or are you seeing an actual seam, line, or similar transition somewhere?

Yes, blotch, not a smooth transition from top to bottom.
