So I rented a Sigma 150-500mm 3/6.5 and can I just say wow. Granted I have only taken one picture with it so far (Sports day tomorrow), but I have never been able to get this picture until now.

If I had a grand to drop I just might buy this monster of a lens! Tomorrow I will be shooting 2 football games, a roller derby, and a baseball game, so we will see how well it holds up there.

Wow... just wow.. that's all i can say. I am amazed at the detail of the moon so close up.

I know!!!!!!! This lens is crazy. It weighs like 8 pounds and is almost as long as my arm when fully extended, but fantastic just for a moon shot alone!

Whats the advantages/disadvantages of this lens vs. The sigma 50-500 os one that's about?

I have no idea. I have never seen the Sigma 50-500mm. I have never used a better lens than my Sigma 70-300 (Which isn't all that great) or my Nikkor 200. I am renting different big lenses since I am planning on buying one very soon.

I wish the Sigma 150-500 mm was f/3-6.3, but it's not, it's f/5-6.3.

The newer Sigma 50-500 mm with OS, is f/4.5-6.3 and costs $1600. Sigma had a 50-500 mm without OS (also f/4.5-6.3) that was about the same priice as the 150-500.

So im assuming the OS is quite a big difference hand held at 500mm? Is the 100 mm the OS and the little extra f/stop worth a $600 extra price?
Or what are some other lenses that are comparable to these that you know of?

That and the 120-400 Sigma are both very impressive. I plan on getting the 120-400 but was also tossing up the 150-500 as well, as it is excellent. In fact I would rank them over the Canon 100-400 L IS. I have been leaning towards the 400 as its lighter, a bit faster, but damn, its a tough call. Very nice shot by the way.
