I settled for a stream and a deer.

Was going out today to get pictures of bighorn sheep and elk, but the pass near Mt Rainier was closed for 3 hrs because some guy in a semi jack knifed his rig just over the summit blocking the road, of course with no warning signs I didn't know it till I got to the summit myself. So I turned around and settled for roaming some logging roads and venturing into some alder thickets.

#3. Not all my wildlife shots come out clear, dang near stepped on this doe bedded down in the ferns before she scared the crap outta me flashing across in front of my shot. But I felt better because now I don't think the buck was watching me, but looking for her.

#4 got my kegs all lined up for my next party though... :drool:

Maybe it is just me, but 1 and 2 look over sharpened, most obvious is the rocks in the back on 1 and the deer face on 2. Did you mess with the sharpening a lot?

I really really REALLY like number 3. That is such a cool moment to capture!

*Edit - I dont know if "sharp" is the right word for it. Maybe it is something else...artifacts? I dont know. Well lets see what other people say.

I can see a bit of sharpening in #2 but it escapes me in #1. I like all of them for the moment they portray. Nice work.

Thanks for the comments. The moent was good, if I had been paying attention instead of being distracted by the buck's antlers I could have filled the frame with that doe using my 24-70. I really did almost step on her when I through a clump of ferns that were mid thigh high.

I don't think it's sharpening in either photo, in the first it might be the texture of the heavy moss and the wind was blowing pretty good which left a little motion in there in the background (a touch of artifact maybe from downsizing?).

In the second, I think it's the effect of the deers hide being soaking wet and the hair matted and standing on end, maybe a little like this spike elk that was closer in someone's front yard today too.

#3 is an amazing capture. I love it. And #4 gets me for some reason. Maybe it's the gentle curve of the barrels, the starkness of the bright orange on the greenish-blue water...I can't put my finger on it. But I know I like it.
