I want to offer my landscapes with a matte only, not frame... is that OK?

There is a custom framing shop in town that does great work. I would rather fit my photos to a matte and let the customers pick out a frame that works for their own preferences, decor, and tastes. To point them to the framing shop. I can offer to provide framing if they want, or also provide prints only, but I would like to advertise my photos with matting. Is that unprofressional or a 'wrong' way to advertise? Or should one advertise as 'framed and unframed'/ print only or framed?

Some people actually don't use any frames to sell their photos. So its not a wrong way to advertise.

FWIW - It's mat, not matte. Matte is a finish type. A mat is a piece of mat board that has had an appropriately sized window cut in it to display a photo. You'll also want to bag them: ClearBags - Promote, Protect and Preserve or www.uline.com

A mat serves 2 functions:

1. a border that separates an image from the background (usually a wall) where it is displayed.
2. the mat keeps the frame glazing (usually glass) above the print so the print cannot adhere to the glazing over time

To mat a photo, the photo also has to be mounted (backed). The mount can be mat board, a type of foam board, acrylic, metal, etc.
