Ice

The fact it's dirty, doesn't project ice very aesthetically even if it is an accurate picture. Being overcast, the lighting is very flat too which decreases interest. Compositionally, maybe a different angle or position would add a little excitement.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I agree with Alan, dirty snow is not really appealing. The only option here I see is going b&w, probably something like that ?

Mike, for something like this I would get up close. It is definitely an interesting subject, but the perspective makes the photo look like a simple vacation snapshot...know what I mean? If it were me, I woulda gotten up close and filled the camera frame with the dark and light areas, taking advantage of the interesting textures and colors. Most people would maybe back up and wait till the sun goes down to get some pretty light behind it or something. Personally I think those types of shots are generic and usually uninteresting (there are always exceptions of course). Treat the ice like it is a landscape...turn the cracks and textures into mini landscape shots. Get up close and play with the shapes, tones, and textures;)

I'm not sure why, but I kind'a like this. Maybe I just find the subject interesting.
I did brighten it up a little to bring out a little more detail in the brown ice.
Interesting...

I really like it. It's very consistent with your style. Not everyone is going to like it. Not everyone is going to get it. I think you already know that, though. I like your work because it's different. Unpredictable. It's not the same thing I've seen 100 times. It's not afraid to break rules, be absurd, ironic, and in all that is a terrific sense of invention, creativity, and surprise that transforms the monotonous into something idiosyncratic. That is the beauty of what you do. I really like the color and tones in this image, and I love the huge hunk of dirty ice. The artlessness of it is utterly brilliant.
