took this while out walking today i used my nikon d3100 with 18-55mm kit lens, so not to bad considering

Nice colors... but is there a reason you didn't shoot this vertically (portrait format)? Even a vertical crop would help to emphasize the icicles more... and reduce dead space. If you allowed EDITING, I would shot you..... but you have DO NOT EDIT in your profile. Also... that big blurred patch on the lower right.. is distracting! On a shot like this, I probably would have increased the DOF to include that.. and relied on color for separation.

i now see exactly what you mean, it really does emphasis the icicles more by removing dead space ,
