In the early 1960's, one could wander all around Idelwild Airport (now JFK) with a camera and not be bothered by security or restrictions. Here are a couple of old images from that era:

I always feel like I am the center of attention at an airport with a camera. The paranoia associated with security now has pretty much reversed what you experienced while taking those.
