Really? I thought the 500mm was for large format and one of the 300mm was for medium format.

I thought both were for MF. But I don't think I have the extension needed for 500mm anyway.

For the record, the Nikon highlights looks like that at f/11 because Nikon wants the lens to be able to produce sunstars.

I doubt any manufacturer makes aperture blades specifically to make stars.
