If you don't know what lens to buy...

I really didn't mean this to be a rant or complaint, or even saying that people should not be asking question, rather just general advise: don't buy something if you don't know why you might need it.

People often get into this mindset that if they just had a better lens, then they could take better pictures. This might be the case for some, that the lens is in fact holding them back. But if you cannot point to what it is about the lens that you have which is the problem, then it's probably better to learn a bit about photographic optics in general before going out and buying a new lens.

If you aren't sure which lens to buy, then there is a good chance that you don't yet understand enough about photography to appreciate what a new lens would offer
