Hey

Welcome. Congrats on buying your DSLR.

My fav out of all these shots is number 3. It has a real film look to it, however the composition could be better, in my opinion there is to much sky and too litte foreground.

I regards to HDR, the purpose of HDR is to enable you to capture Dynamic Range in a situation where there is alot of dynamic range.

See, cameras are not as good as our eyes, our eyes can see much more than our cameras can.

The reason people shoot HDR is to enable them to capture everything in the scene. HDR is not necessary shooting in a situation like you have, there would be enough dynamic range from just one photo.

You maybe thinking that HDR is just the name of the effect that you see on some HDR images where they are all wacky and surreal looking, but it is infact a technique used to capture more than data/info than you can get from just 1 photo.

I hope I haven't confused you at all, keep up the photography and you will soon be completely in love with it.

Thanks for the reply I agree the 3rd is my fav, I understand HDR I think my issue is more to do with how to use my camera correctly, after all this is my first dslr a dive hadit less that 8 hours, any pointers feel free lol thanks

Have you used cameras before ?

What kind of mode are you currently shooting in ?

Never before but eager to get into photography...
i'll be honest the mode I'm not so sure about, I've been messing around with all sorts and kind of got lost in the excitement however the above photos where taken while in 'A' on my dial

I really like #1, but would've liked to see the focus on the eyes as opposed to the nose...

I have no idea why but I've always loved cows (bulls? whatever). So these are really fun to look at. I think #4 is my favorite - they seem to be surveying the landscape, looking for trouble. #2 would be better if I could make out the eye(s). They're not quite HDR but whatever processing you've done gives them a sort of painting feel. I like 'em!

Thanks for your replies, I think my main issues is I need to read through my manual I have buttons on my camera that I haven't tried yet, hopefully today I'm gonna get the chance. I'm also looking into trying some portrait photos but need some sort of lighting first, you may get the impression that I'm rushing between modes and types but just trying to find what feels comfortable to begin with, again thanks for your opinions and pointers.....
