What's new

I'm confident that none of these pictures are any good.

I'm at work so I've just done some light scanning of the thread but I would like to add quickly: Subject isn't always the trump. There are literally millions of ****ty shots of beautiful places while there are significantly less beautifully captured shots of ****ty places.

Hi Kevin,
First of all, I think you made it pretty transparent that you were out LOOKING for things to shoot, and trying to learn more, and train your eye. It was more than obvious, by the title of your thread that you never considered these to be hanging in art shops all around town. I saw the post as one for getting feedback.

Which brought up an interesting discussion between Bitter Jeweler and and Gina. I thought both people really had some great debate points. Sorry it turned into a nightmare for you. I'm sure a lot of people feel your pain on that one. (not Gina and Bitter. I think that was really a great discussion).

Anyhoo, here is how I think about it. I think at least you got up, walked around, got in some good practice, and tried to train your eye. Further, you came here, into what can sometimes be a pretty frightening place, prone with scary monsters at times, and ASKED for advice on ways you could improve. Right there you are batting 1000, as far as I'm concerned.

And I agree with other posters, that practice makes perfect. No one gets any better sitting behind a computer screen talking smack about other people's photos. :-) So hang in there. I personally rather liked the chain link fence photos. I think with a new eye, a lot of the other photos could work as well. Next time you go out, try to figure out totally new ways to shoot the stuff you see every day.

I need to do more of that myself. Anyhoo, I just wanted to give you a big hug.

:gun::whip: Bitter Jeweler!

But on a serious note, I'd love to see you and Gina continue the discussion maybe in the Photo Discussion Area. It was pretty interesting to see the differing viewpoints.

Educated debates... yep, I agree. It's all the other nonsense that drives me up the wall.

And on another note, be careful what you say so you are not put on the expert's 'do not reply' list! If you say something they don't like it will cause them to stop commenting on your posts, photos, and everything else you do on this forum!

I'm calling it the, "Failure to bless you with my expert presence sh!t list." :er:

*gasp* Jessica! I never would have pegged you as a pot stirrer!

My true colors tend to come out when people are bullied and leave forums because of it. Lots of posts and living on a forum does not necessarily create an expert. Sometimes it just equals a lonely person with a lot of BS to throw around. :er:

Nice song by the way... At least you chose one I grew up with. :greenpbl:

Really? I think I might actually curl up and die if I wasn't "blessed" by the "chosen".:pimp:

Bad Cindy....Bad!

Thanks bennie, I'm always out trying to practice ^-^

@ Jwellman, yeah I don't want people to start disliking me for some reason. But to the extent that Derrel was "critiquing" my photo, I feel a line should be drawn. It's okay to point out the negatives of a shot, that's what makes it better. But to go flat out and say, they suck and look like you put no thought into them whatsoever, is a bit harsh.

The shot with the rod is definitely your best composed shot. The processing in all of them is a bit dull. Otherwise, the subject matter isn't really too interesting.
