These Irises are stunning but wow are they busy! I didn't like them against the garden/green as a background so I put it against the sky.
C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Judi, Outstanding. Wow does this work. The exposure must have been a real bear, yet you pulled it off. WTG Girl :thumbup:

Sweet. It looks even better large on your Flickr. At first I felt the color of the petals and sky were an issue, but they work very well together, actually. Nice exposure on the iris. Maybe clone out that blob in the bottom left. I like this.

Joel took the words right out of my mouth!! I absolutely LOVE this!!!! I have never taken a photo of an iris that I was completely happy with. Busy doesn't begin to describe them. A great idea to use the sky as background. You nailed this perfectly!!

Good work. I agree about the little blob in the lower left. Interesting that you situated the pattern in the clouds so that it works really well as a background, with the hole in the clouds next to the flower. I think that makes this format works better than square, which would normally be better for this image.

Thanks Joel, Jaemie, Carol and Ken :)
So the blob, are we talking about the teeny tiny tip of the greenhouse that I missed (ugh) or the closed Iris?
Ken, I waited for that break in the clouds ;) I took two sets like this, the first one I didn't like the square crop and with right frame filled with clouds it was too busy and competed.

I'm thinking the blob must be the little dark circle right under the iris petal.

^^ what they said, about the blob.

I like the bulb there though. It could almost tell a story if you wanted it to, that of protection...mother over child with that petal hovering over.

I too was not sure, at first I was like ...blue on blue...ick. but as I looked...it really does work.

Nice job.

Wow, they grow tall in your parts. ;)

Good job, as always, compositionally and technically. I've been shooting some irises too, in my wife's rock garden, but I don't have anything I'm prepared to share - I have a little pride! So good to see you succeed with yours. Now, curious minds want to know, with all the crawling around on the ground you've been doing lately, aren't the neighbours getting concerned yet?

Actually, there are 2 little blobs. Could be on your sensor, perhaps?

Thanks :) I was hoping that was it but then thought "they can't mean the closed one can they?..." lol

Thanks Ernicus.
I really like that story and I think it fits the image perfectly, I just might have to steal it for a name if you don't mind ;)

Thanks Pgriz :)
Looking forward to seeing you solve the puzzle with Mrs. Pgriz's irises.
lol!! I walk around and stare at the trunks of trees looking for bugs, I can't count how many times I've been asked "what are you looking at?" by a family member, I'm forever standing/sitting/kneeling/laying in seemingly random locations, I've been known to sprint short distances when I hear a bird up river sounding like it is about to take off, I have been in odd positions and slipped at the side of both the pond and the river, I have tripped over the dog more than once after she has given up waiting for me and laid down...yes I'm a clutz lol thank goodness my closest neighbor of about 20 acres away and I'm surrounded by woods ;)

Good catch Jaemie, thank you. The one on the right is the tip of a tree, the one on the left isn't the greenhouse it is on the sensor, it is in all of the shots. Time to learn how to clean my camera.

Thanks Ernicus :)

The blobs were starting to drive me insane so I had to fix them and post lol
Here is the cleaned up image.

Nice shot! There seems to be a blue color cast that washes out some of the purple of the iris. I made some adjustments to see if cleaning that up helped the iris pop a bit more against the sky. I hope you don't mind.
