Thanks. This was shot between rain squalls. When I first looked the way of this egret, the sun was just breaking through and his left (our right as we look at it) was really bright. To offset this metering nightmare, I switched over to Matrix Highlight mode which blends the overexposed area to the midtones and evens out the lighting. I've had great success with this on my D810. I was only able to make two exposures before the sun disappeared again, this time for good. I just liked the more windblown look to the feathers on this one so I worked it for presentation.
