I caught this guy this morning using my EF 400mm lens with stacked 1.4x and 2.0x T.C.'s for an effective focal length of1120mm.
Will have to improve on getting closer as image quality suffers from using TC's

Very nice even using stacked TC's! I love these birds. BTW, I think you may have a little sensor dirt above the end of the branch and to the left of the bunting's head.
 
Yeah I noticed it too I am working on that. Too many lens changes in the field.

Yeah, I have the same problem. This is a place where film wins out over digital -- dust would not ruin a whole roll of film. I wish there was really an effective way of stopping this. I am very careful (turn my camera face down ... have replacement lens ready, etc.), but still manage to contaminate things frequently and my 30D does not have a filter cleaner (although I understand they don't work all that well anyway). Maybe I need a changing bag like I used to use to fill my bulk loader.
