Frogs/toads 
Yes... It is a toad - the skin on frogs is smooth.
It was in my back garden here in South Carolina. I bet somebody into toadology could probably identify it. It was a massive beastie that vanished into the bushes with a loud flop after I whipped my Nikon 3100 compact out and flashed him!
My 3100 is 5 years old and still going strong
