Is it possible to focus your photos through Gimp or PS?

I borrowed it, and find it can work on photos that are a bit soft, as long as you don't have any other hugely glaring issues present.

The trial is free, so it never hurts to give it as shot, and I also recommend following some of their tutorials to see how best to apply their software.

Digital cameras have an array of filters in front of the image sensor.

One of those filters is known as an anti-aliasing (AA) filter, and the AA filter softens the focus a lens delivers. The aggressiveness of the AA filter varies by camera make and model. The more aggressive an AA filter is, the softer the image focus.

All digital images require some amount of sharpening to counter the affects of the AA filter.
