What's new

Is there a way to tell?

Ya, I use the EXIF viewer extension for firefox which works great. I've also got a standalone program on my computer at home that will read the EXIF off pretty much any image file.

Interesting. On my 350D and E-300 it says 'flash did not fire' if I'm using a flash on the hot-shoe.

Is it an on or off brand flash? It always shows my flash as firing when I use my 430ex with my 5D (not if I'm using triggers however). I can't remember about the T1i but I assume it would be the same.
That's with a 580 EX II...

Not sure why it doesn't show it. I wouldn't expect the E-300 to 'see' my Canon flash, but for some reason the 350D doesn't either.

Doesn't make any difference if it's on the hot-shoe, on the OC-E3 off camera cord (that shouldn't be any different than if it were on the hot-shoe - it's basically an extension cord for the hot-shoe), or on a wireless trigger (I would expect that not to show it).

All of my other bodies are 35mm, so obviously, there's no exif.

You can also usually right click on it and find the exif somewhere in the file properties.

I use OPANDA EXIF viewer, free down load plugin, can check right off picture. I can actually see where and when you took the picture if taken by cell phone, kinda scary isnt it.

So if you're taking naked pics of yourself with your smartphone, make sure to turn the GPS capabilities off. Or at least do it somewhere that isn't your home.

On flickr it shows if I used pop up flash, commander mode, ttl, bl ttl, It also tells you if your return flash is detected or not. See below...

I'm just now getting into flash photography. I've been a natural light photographer. So sorry I don't know what return flash is.

I also have no clue what return flash is. Or what it means when it is or isn't detected. Searching google and not finding answer.
