Hey everyone, I am looking into purchasing a D7000 kit and was looking on cametas site at some of there factory refurbished kits. What I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with purchasing refurbished D7000s before, The kit I am looking into has the refurbished body with the 18-105, 55-300 lenses, tripod, and all accessories like tripod, bag, battery, filters and so on for $1270.00. The price seems great and I just want to make sure i wont regret going the refurbished route. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks everyone for taking the time to read and help me with my purchase.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it refurbished as long as its factory refurbished from a reputable seller (cameta seems to be good but I don't have any personal experience with them)....I've purchased several refurbished items and never had a problem. just do a thorough check of it when it comes in and make sure everything is good, check the shutter count, etc. its still a used camera, but its certified as new by Nikon and it'll come with a 90 day warranty from nikon, Cameta might add an extended warranty of their own on top of that or something, it would be worth looking into.

FWIW, I got my D800e as a factory refurb from KEH, it arrived to me with 17 (yes, seventeen) total shutter actuations. and after much testing, I cannot find any issues with it, other than having a shutter count of 17, and coming in a different colored box, and having a significantly lower price, its completely indistinguishable from a new one. My 70-200f2.8 was a refurb I got from Adorama. lens is excellent, have had no issues with it. my wife's D5000 was a refurb, has been working flawlessly for a few years, I had one D90 a few years ago that was a refurb, also no problems...

I've had really good luck with some refurbished stuff from Adorama.

think of it this way...a NEW item may or may not have been inspected by the factory before being sold, a refurbished one definitely has (or at least it should have been, I'm sure there are stories about bad refurb items getting by, but I'm sure there are just as many or more issue with new items as well, its a chance that we take purchasing a mass produced item, thats where the warranty and exchange period comes into play if needed).

Yeah I have heard that refurbed items are actually inspected and gone through by hand to check parts that may be damaged or worn, and it seems like a lot of people like that

I bought my D7000 refurbished from, I think B&H (maybe it was KEH...too early for the brain cells to figure that out this morning), back last November right after Thanksgiving. I haven't had any problems with it. I love refurbished stuff. I've also bought at least one lens that way and my current desktop computer.

HOWEVER: *IF* it was ME, I would not buy that whole setup like that. I'd look for just the refurb D7000 body, then add whatever lenses I wanted one at a time. I got my D7000 for under $650; granted, it was a stellar deal, at least at the time, but since the D7100 has come out, I'd think those deals are out there.
The tripod and filters and such that come with the "package" deal are likely to not be worth having, so that means you're paying about $620 or so for the two lenses. You can get either one of those lenses used, in great condition, from a reputable site for about $200, so--imo--you're paying about $100-200 for a junk tripod, filter and bag.

I recently bought a refurb D5100 from Cameta and have not had any issues with it or with them. Came with a 1 year warranty. I agree with sm4him about the bundle extras. One exception to that is sometimes the bundle price for a body and bag or body and cleaning kit is the same as the body only price so you may as well get the freebies thrown in.

As an owner of a D7k refurb from B&H, I can say "No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with purchasing a factory refurbished D7000."

Pull the trigger, you'll be glad you did.

Cameta Camera is a Nikon authorized seller of Nikon factory refurbished Nikon gear.

Nikon provides a 90 day warranty on gear they refurbish. Cameta adds to that so the camera is warrantied for a year.
Cameta is where I was actually going to go with refurb from... I figure the refurbished d600s are all just dust issue returns. Cameta offers the 1 yr vs adoramas 90 day for warranty.

Just remember.. the 90 day is from Nikon (Nikon does the repair)... the 1 year is from Cameta (Cameta does the repair). I have heard good things about them though.
Yes we do cover the rest of the year, however we do not fix it, we send it to Nikon for repair, we just cover the costs.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but say a d7000 has 50k actuations and it goes to get refurbished when its all said and done does it have 50k actuations still or 0??? Sorry I'm a noob but I really appreciate all you helping me

I have been wondering the same. The description on the Nikon site is a little vague.

I doubt Nikon would spend time and effort to refurbish a camera that has 50,000 shutter actuations.

The major source of refurbished cameras is returns of properly functioning cameras from customers that developed buyer remorse of one kind or another.

A lot of people that buy a D7000, find a D7000 more complicated to use than they thought.

Funny but Nikon Canada sells D7000 refurbs for C$699--just C$100 less than a new D7000 with a full 2 yr warranty.

Same here. Bought my D7K refurb from Adorama and could not be happier. I bought the body only since I already had lenses.

no, a refurbished camera is still considered used, the shutter count is never reset to zero, even if the shutter is replaced, etc...think of it like the odometer on your car, if someone goes for a test drive with it, the dealer doesn't reset the odometer to zero...

I don't think I've ever heard of any refurb with more than a couple thousand actuations, and even that isn't too common, most are just a few hundred shots. remember that refurbs are being sold by nikon that they are certified to be in the same condition as a new one. if it has 50k shots on it, that is hardly 'as new', depending on the model, that could be roughly 1/2-1/3 of the rated shutter life.
