What's new

Is this a female cardinal?

I wondered because cardinals use the bushes in my front yard and along the driveway as their condos, and I've never noticed one with yellow tipping on the tailfeathers.

only once did i have the chance to take a photo of these birds.. only once they flocked to this tree..so long ago.. you did a fabulous photo of this bird.. my favorite

Cardinal or not, I like your photo, particularly the red on the wings and yellow on the tail feathers.

Thanks! I'm definitely not knowledgeable when it comes to birds but this one let me get so close that I had to get a photo. Was out on a short hike up in VT scouting out a new place with some reflection possibilities for fall and not looking for birds at all when I took this. This bird just sat there on a branch right at my eye level and occasionally looked over its shoulder to see if I was a threat. I took a shot every 2 steps and it didn't fly off until I was about 5 ft away but I never did get a look at the front only a flash of color as it flew off.

Almost sounds as though the bird was primping for you.

Nice shot, Sharon. I've have seen a wild turkey, a red wing blackbird, and a goldfinch, but I was driving and couldn't pull over.

Hope you got some fishing in~ you missed a great shoot Saturday at the hot air balloon festival.

Yep, Cedar Waxwing. You're lucky. Usually very skiddish, and don't sit still for more than a second or two. I've been trying for 2 years to get a usable photo of these little guys. Much smaller than I thought, too.

Great shot.

A little bit. Darned near fell on my @$$ - slippery rocks and swifter than used to current.

Maybe next year.
