I really don't like that I can't see his eyes. It makes him look... not friendly.

I would have to agree that eyes up, theres way too much shadow.

The shadow offers nothing other than to hide the eyes of the subject, which will cause your viewers to strain to try and make it out.

Better would have been to frame it tighter in portrait orientation, then have your subject move into the light, with the background still dark.
