Some Toronto urban history...These small storefronts, once common along major streets, provided
goods and services to area 'hoods--greengrocers, butchers, delis, fish stores, dry cleaners, barbers, bakeries, coffee shops/restaurants, fabric stores--where Italian, Portuguese and Polish communities got footholds in Canada. They aged, moved, and left landlords with small spaces
they converted(mostly legally)into small apts. Most shop space had upstairs residential spots but
these were left intact with downstairs stores done over as small digs. Now, few of these survive like hers where landlords either sell or rack-rent to short-lived shops. This landlord's reasonable rent gives him a stable income and her a nice space. Everyone's happy.

One of the remaining by-invitation "salons" that migrates to the remaining nearby dive bars on Fri/Sat nights when things get crowded. Not at all a scenester thing. More like a shared old bad habit.
Besides, Isabel runs a tight once-a-week by-subscription JOBO b&w lab. Long may it wave...
