It Can Be Done...

A year ago today; at 10:53am PST, to be exact, I crushed out what was destined to be my last cigarette.

I'm proud of the fact that I've not suffered a single slip.

I smoked a pack and a half for 35 years; over 380,000 cigarettes. I quit using Wellbutrin and the patch.

If you've been thinking of quitting but, like me, have allowed the fear of failure to keep you from even trying, do it. It's easier than you think...

the EMT on the shift before me is using one of those e-cigs. (its large, and you have to fill a small chamber with liquid) i don't really know much about them, but I would guess they are far better for you than the real thing. I am assuming the ultimate goal is to stop altogether, whether it is the e-cig, the patch, or the gum.

i have never smoked, but i have known several people that have quit, and several that quit once a year or so.
I have heard that cigarets are more addicting, and harder to quit than cocaine or heroine, so smoke free for a year is indeed a great accomplishment.

One of my best friends is using an e-cigarette, and he hasn't smoked in over a month. There is, still, the nicotine addiction to contend with, though...

I quit when I started dating my now-wife. It was a condition. And she's unreasonably hot. So, it was pretty easy.

Congrats! I just went passed 16 years after smoking 3 packs a day and quit cold turkey. Doctor said my newborn son had asthma and that was all I needed to hear!

I like the fact, that you are speaking out on this issue. Smoked for many years, quit cold turkey 25 years ago, thought if was safe to have one after five years. within a week it was time to buy a pack. NEVER EVER TAKE THAT NEXT CIGERETTE. Continued my quit from then to now.

That is a great gift to yourself.

I converted to non-smoker status on March 21, 2005.

It took a heart attack that day to give me sufficient motivation to stop cold turkey.

They say 1 out of 3 don't survive a first heart attack.

Seems to be a common thing among photographers. Personally it's the long hours in the car the keep me going back. That being said, I make a pack last a week.

A friend of mine had a heart attack while on stage at the age of 40. He quit smoking and became a vegetarian on the same day. The guy is one of the healthiest people I know.

Since that day; ten years ago, I've told myself I would quit. I finally decided I didn't want to be a 50 year old smoker.

My 6th month anniversary was on my 50th birthday...

Great stuff...amazing the stuff we do to ourselves, and the money we spend on stuff like this, and the health problems we cause to ourselves and our loved ones.

I smoked for about 15 years. Quit when the wife told me she would never allow herself to get pregnant and have children if I smoked. Fair enough...I stopped. My kids have great lungs!

I still have no money, but now it's because I spend it on the kids and family, not on £6+ a packet (at 2 packs a day!!!) - £4300 a year on ***s! Bizarre what people will pay!
