Today marks another anniversary. Sixty-six years ago on August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima was destroyed by an Atomic bomb.

Nuclear weapons continue to threaten the very existance of the human race, and is an issue needing much more attention than global warming.

Unfortunately, there is no way to put the genie back in the bottle.

Really not quite sure where you are intending this thread to go - at the moment it just seems to be a more off-topic post than something specifically aimed at photography itself. Unless you can put some more meaning/discussion angle into this I'm moving it down to off-topic.

Also the points regarding nuclear tech has the potential to go political, which I will remind users is against site policy.

Technology does indeed continually march onward. Currently, the world wide web is spreading like wildfire to mobile devices, and cameras are in danger of becoming less-than-desirable, single-use devices. Last year the number of mobile phones sold was much greater than the number of cameras sold. That is a new direction for societies all over the planet, and one the camera companies can't stop. In Haiti for example, after the earthquake, the government was able to distribute welfare benefits and vouchers via mobile phones. My latest camera was the iPhone 4...yet another example of a new technology device displacing not one, but two different cameras! My Panasonic 10x zoom just died, and my FLip-type video camera also crapped out....now I have passable replacements for both cameras, in ONE new modern-technology device. I live each day, blissfully unconcerned about nuclear weapons; I lived my youth in fear of an attack from "the Russians". I watched the TV series "Amerika". I quit being afraid years ago, when I realized the boogeyman was all a political construct designed to keep me afraid of "the other", which in my youth was Russia. And we all know what a gutless, impotent, useless paper tiger Russia turned out to be.

Wow I started web surfing in 1996. Boy the things I've seen. A few years back I had a customer who took the pictures of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was strapped in lying down under the pilot seat of the U2 spy plane. He said that each trip was around 12 hours long and that his family never knew. Talk about extreme photography.
