It's been a while since I've posted so here's a mixed bag of stuff for you guys. I know #1 and #2 are poor, but they are at 6400 ISO, 1/100; I did my best :x.
Need ID on #3, and a game: Guess the shutter speed I took this image at.

Also I could use some opinion on the last one, is it any good? I know it really soft, and the bird isn't even properly visible but I like it for some strange reason :)

#1. Asian Pied Starling looking for food in the rain

Another nice set! I like critters in the wild portrayed the way they are such as in #5. It just looks natural. of the lot I prefer #4 because he's a cute little devil.

I like this set of pics overall. You (op) mentioned the last one had issues but was liked, I think animals are notorious for turning just before you snap, or running behind something, at least here in the desert they are, to capture anything takes a certain amount of hunting skills, we shoot with cameras but none the less, can't shoot through the heart every time.

:D Thanks Brain.. :)

It looks like it's an Indian Pond Heron (male, breeding)

Super pretty! Also, your starlings are way more attractive than ours. :) I like the set.
Thanks Civ, you got it spot on. Edited the original one with credits :D

Thanks Bamps.. Where do you usually shoot?

Raj...3 and 4 are my favs. They are bigger and cute-r. I like the composition in them too. The others are nice too especially #1 though I do not know if you zoom in further they will be as good. I can't wait for you to get that other camera coming to you tomorrow in the field and test it for us all to see...

Ahhhh, 1/30th

That is one very interesting Starling variety Raj !! That appeals big time. Fascinating to see thanks. The colours on that ....... pond Heron are amazing, man I would like to see one of those. Great set Raj and the one up the tree is to die for in cuteness :)

All the best Raj, nice shooting.

Danny.

Nice set of photos. Last one's my fav. If the DoF was a little more shallow with bird in perfect focus to avoid those little distractions that would make one hell of a photo.

#2 has a lot of empty space. #3 is flat and not sharp. I guess you used not enough shutter speed. Colours are also not that vibrant. #1 and #3 are nice.

Thanks Izzi, I can't wait either but blame the dreaded indian postal service. :-P

Nice set Raj, 3& 4 I really like.

Thanks Radical :)

Nice set

Thanks Larry :)

Almost! :-P It was at 1/20 and ISO was around 4000 I think. Did a loooot of noise reduction on the background to make it look presentable. My camera just wasn't made with an overcast weather in the mind.

And the one on that tree was funny for me too, that guy just sat their like that and monitored me for the entire period I was shooting birds in and around that area. He must have thought I'm real 'special'

I'm practising my post processing these days. I did a quick edit for #3.

Edit: I think I over-greened that eye a bit.

Thanks for the detailed critique brother, I know what you mean. For #3, there just wasn't anything I could have done. I reduced the shutter speed down to 1/20th and still had to go very high on the ISO. :(

I am open for critique in #2, I wanted to highlight the raindrops in the background. That's the primary reason I didn't crop it too much. I would like to know what others think about the composition on this one too.

Thanks for taking the time Sarmad. Yup! I think the saturation is a bit on the high side for the yellow and the green parts, but certainly looks good. :)
