ixus 700

I have a Nikon 8700 that I use for my main shoots (would I gain much going for a D70?) and am looking for a second camera to carry in car, on basic travels and in pocket.

I am looking at the canon ixus 700... comments please on spec, quality, size and alternatives/suggestions.
