Japanese Maple Night Landscape

Japanese are famous for their unique landscaping. This particular park is privately owned and opened to the public. They have various flower species that will blossom during different times of the year, so you can keep coming back for different colors. It's autumn now, so maple it is. I have to say, photo doesn't do it justice. Each light was adjusted to help bring out the color and shape of the particular tree, and the overall light set up forms a very full and cohesive visual presence. They really put in a lot of effort to make this a stunning light performance.

#01 Starting with the on site hotel lobby. It's a modern installation, however, the rest of the hotel is traditional Japanese architecture style. Very weird actually.

Lastly, there's a traditional tea house for guests to enjoy the night.

1 & 5 for me, Looks like a beautiful place to go and shoot. Were these all handheld shots or longer exposures? Also were you shooting RAW as I think that the highlights could be controlled a little more and shadows lifted a touch (personal preference). Lucky you for getting to shoot there!

They were all on tripod, there was no way to shoot handheld. The conditions pretty much maxed out the capability of D750's dynamic range. Which means, it was not possible to keep the highlights and the shadow details without the highlights blown out, not unless I do HDR, which I have tried to turn away from. I actually shot most of these underexposed and lifted the shadows to do my best to subdue the highlights.

Well the night maple display is seasonal, but there's different flower event all year depending on the season. It's not a famous spot for international tourists, gotta take a hour-long train ride from Fukouka, but yes it's worth it.
