Can others edit my Photos

Ever had one of those shots that you walk away from and think maybe you have made the wrong career choice? Well this was one. I had an assistant (more just for fun than need) who completely deflated me and I just couldn't shake it. I was already working with a super nervous and self conscious gal, so when comments like "oh, you think her face looks good?" or, "you aren't talking that shot, are you" were made, I totally fell apart.

Sigh.

I hope the client is pleased, but I am not.

I quite like them.

With the first, perhaps rotate it 90 degrees to the left, but other than that I think these are quite nice.

And if your assistant was bringing you down, don't work with them again.

nobody needs negativity on set.

These are good, I'm sure she will be pleased!

Jeeze. With an assistant making comments like that, I would have just said "Oh, I didn't realize you were a photographer. Do you want to take over?" But, you also have to keep it professional in front of the client. Needless to say, I still would have had some words in private. I think you're letting your assistant, and what they said get to you. You shouldn't be dissatisfied with the images at all.

I think the set turned out quite nicely. I like the angle in 1, very different and unique. There's one issue I have is with photo 3, and it seems to be her hand on the bench or railing behind her. It's such a small element of the photo, but for some reason it literally jumps out at me. Really just a nitpick.

These are all very nice. I like the first one in particular.

I think some work on posing hands would be a benefit. In the first, it seems no thought at all went into placement. The second, her hand and arm are working against you, creating a strong, vertical straight line. Perhaps hook her thumb in her pocket. And you amputated her left in the last.

Also in the last (very nicely lighted), she's down into the grass a bit too much. I know folks use bags and not cases these days... I would have placed my case int the grass for her to sit on, raising her up just a bit (about 5-6 inches). Maybe clone out the large pole in this one too.

All in all, very nice. You have found some very nice settings and are using them well.

As for your helper, it's up to you how much time you want to invest in him/her. I'm compelled to teach in such situations... NOT during the session though.

I think I would have excused myself and the assistant. Walked away so the client couldn't hear you and told the assistant to keep her mouth shut.

Thanks for the feedback on the images.

As for the "assistant" she is a fellow professional photographer who came out to meet me and just paly around before a big charity event I am hosting next weekend. Before I even had my lens cap off she was taking over. I think I was so shocked I just froze. I would be directing the model and she would just talk right over me. I need a backbone :(

She was a heckler and she was upstaging you. She has issues.

First....if you let her comments deflate you, then YOU are not a professional.

Second... if she makes those kinds of comments in front of a client, then SHE is not a professional.

I wouldn't say they come off bad, I personally quite like them. Good job.

I like the shots, Rub! As for the "assistant"... you don't need her around! (Make her aware of that!) :)

Ill be your assistant, I don't complain or doubt your skill. I accept payments in one on one titoring, beer and steak and I'll hold that reflector all frigging day :).

"Titoring? Major Freudian slip, right? lol!

I meant tutoring, there were no booby innuendoes ;)
