Jersey Birds

Here are a few shots I have took over the past few weeks.

1.) Tree Swallow (I never have seen one perching before, so this was exciting )


2.) Common Terns


3.) A Pair of Mallards (this was definitely a perfect timing shot)

Keep in mind that birds are small subjects. You need to get close (hard part #1) and you sometimes have to get down on their level (hard part #2) as you did in #2. Plus you have to do all this without them deciding to fly away (hard part #3).

You have a lot of background and not a lot of subject in these shots. All the blue sky in #1 doesn't do anything for your shot. #3 is similar but gray instead of blue. I like the out-of-focus gull in the background of #2, and the way you got down low for the shot, but I think a more rectangular crop would emphasize all of them looking the same direction.
