And splashed on a 5D mk2!

Got offered a pretty good deal and couldn't resist. Should come in handy for the wedding this weekend. I'm thinking I'll use it with my 70-200 and have the 40d on hand with the 17-55, which should have pretty much all my bases covered. I also have a 28mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4 that I'll put on after the ceremony for some high-ISO low DOF natural-lightery.

Excited about playing with the movie function mostly!

Pullin' a Momo "I spent this much money" Kazi, are we Fokker?

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze. Didn't expect it from you. :-P

But, truth be told, your post came off much less as a "OMG CHECK OUT THE SCRILLIONS I JUST DROPPED", and more of a "my fragile Aussie heart has been a dark void since the sale of my trusty old full frame 5D1, so I bought a 5D2". It should still probably be in the equip. & reviews section though. ;)

Also good move with the 70-200 on a FF body and giving the 17-55 a little bit more pull on the 40D, that should work well.

Lol, truth be told it's kind of a temporary thing - I'm going backpacking in 3 months and will definitely not be taking a gripped 5d2 with me but in the mean time that shutter is going to take a beating. For the price I paid I will definitely get at least my money back on resale (precluding the release of the 5D3 and 5D2 prices going the way of a humvee in an oil crisis). The hardest part is going to be going back to a rebel (or even a point and shoot *shock*) for ease of travelling :(

PS I'm a kiwi living in australia. The day australian blood flows in my heart is the day I'm in a serious accident and need a blood transfusion....

Let me know how you like it...I keep looking at that, either the 5D or the 7D, still not sure.

Well it's hard not to love the 5D. Just from sitting in my room and toying with it I can tell you that I'm already in love with the thing. Hard decision though between that and the 7D, which is the other camera I was seriously tempted to buy. In the end the appeal of the full-frame sensor won out over faster frame rate and wireless flash control.

Cool man. Taking a video is hard. If you use the focus button you'll hear the motor. Then you need to use manual focus which is hard to get used to.

You boys and your toys...I'll stick with my crappy 1000d thank you. 3 shots a second for 5 seconds and then 1 a second if I'm lucky....no video capability (outside of eos mov_rec) thank goodness...who would want a car chase scene filmed with a cmos anyhow...eeeeww!

But I digress...I really like german chocolate cake...

Enjoy the new camera!! And good luck on the wedding. Keep your wits about you at the wedding. Keep monitoring your ISO values, and make SURE you've got the camera in RAW or RAW + JPEG mode.

5Dmk2 = awesome, I love it. My photos look so much better compared with the 40d, more so than I had expected. But don't just take my (probably slightly biased) opinion for it, the proof is in the pudding right?

Ya' done good, fokker. Gotta' love that shallow, full-frame depth of field and background suppression...you just cannot get that on full-body people shots using a crop-frame camera...the full-frame "look" is very apparent.

Thanks Derrel. Yeah I'm really liking the look of the 28mm sigma on the full frame at the moment. That and the 50mm. Oh and the 70-200 as well.

Yo Fokker, where are they originally from (ethnicity)? On 9 & 10 I personally would use flash and mix it with the purple ambiance. And I think your processing is still on the underexposed side. That is what I have been doing it too but I get many comments about being slightly underexposed. Most people like it on the bright side :). NJ, hopefully I can have my mk2 soon.
