I have to do some cropping to make my moon shot where I like it, but this pic I kinda like

what do yall think

This is not intended as snark, but my first reaction was, "what is it a picture of?" Find a subject...make that your central idea.

I like it. The lacy effect of the bare branches against the clear sky is quite nice.

I got this when I was working on the moon pic, I will post that one today. I have a pic like this with the moon in the upper right corner but it looks like its just a bright spot. I was originally having some difficulty getting the shot that looked good. It was soo bright with the full moon you could hardly see the stars in the east sky. Those lights that are in the picture are about a half mile away, Landscape shots I have a hard time getting a good subject without just making it look like a snapshot of just random landscape.

Does anybody know what is causing the "flaring" on the upper right hand of the moon? is it just since I am getting on the edge of lens and is some abberation? This was with the 28-135.

I was trying to crop it but I do not know what I was doing wrong not to be able to. I could not seem to get the sharp picture that some others have gotten.

So, as someone mentioned above, trees can look quite interesting when exposed this way. Why not find an interesting looking tree and make that your subject?

Ok, I will be looking today, there is a big oak in the other hay field with an old broken windmill right by it, I may go down there tonight.

Any thoughts on the flaring on the moon in the pic with the moon and trees? Just the edge of the lens causing that possibly? or reflecting off the edge of the metal on the lens?

Thanks!!

Well... what camera, lens, and exposure information goes with the photo that includes the moon? Did you have filters on the front glass of the lens also? More information please!

the stupid google attack page deal killed my last post.

Dummy me left the uv filter on the 28-135 when I was taking the pics with the trees in the pics! I remember having the problem with the 70-300 with the filter and just totally forgot about it when I went back out with the other lens. the 20~ degree weather and 15mph winds made me hurry up some

I could have simply been humidity (condensation) on one (or more) of the filter/lens element, the temp would lend credence to the theory. But it looks so much like lens flare, I'll bet it was the filter. I'm really prone to take all my filters off when shooting at night, particularly with a strong singular light presence in the pic, unless I'm using a mild ND filter to force an even longer shutter time.

I am going to try to reshoot it without the filter tonight, so we will see but I am almost sure it was from the filter.

Thanks!!
