As nice as it is, it's a clear example of fantastic directing and cinematography. It could have been shot with anything.

Carl Sagan had this theory that right before you die flashbacks may occur as your brain conciously goes through every memory bank trying to think of a way to survive. Being that the last flashback is the oldest of all memories, the light at the end of the tunnel represents your birth as you see light for the first time as a newborn.

Yes, but that is kind of a moot point. It's true that to get that level of professionalism in video, you need thousands of doallars of accessories; follow focuses, matte boxes, fluid heads, steadicams, dollies, external audio, etc., but the same goes for making professional video with a professional or non professional video camera. They all come as just a recording unit, and need all the same accessories to make high level video. So instead of a REd Epic or a Sony F3 inside that cage of accessories, it's a 5DmkII, which is pretty darn cool.
