K1000 light meter

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I just got my first K1000. I have been using a Spotmatic but wanted something with a K mount.

A question about the meter, if I understand it correctly, the meter is automatic depending on whether there is light coming through the lens?

On the Spotmatic F, you could turn it on or off.

You can turn the dial to B (bulb) and that should turn off the meter.

On the K1000: capping the lens effectively turns off the meter and removing the cap turns it on.

Thanks everyone. Just so you know, I did read the manual. It was rather vague.
