What I like about this picture: Beautiful texture and colours, and I'm guessing you brought these to the front with some good post-processing.

What I don't like: I think it's missing a focal point... my eyes don't really know where to look.

Just my two cents, though.
 
This, so I think, might make any newbie geologist want to step right into the photo for some exploring (will ask my son, who's just finished the first term reading geology in uni, so he is as much a rookie geologist as any can be ;) ).
 
Every time I see photos you take with your D40 it reminds me that I have so much to learn, and that a new camera is not the answer (I also have an "entry level" DSLR)
 
moody, well exposed and interesting clouds in the background - I like it :)
part of me though feels that is a middle shot - that it needs more width to it - panning it or taking it from further back.
 
Nice shot..great texture, good color........:D
