I know it's not terribly sharp, but what do you guys think of the picture otherwise?

The stem is blown out and distracting. Plus, I think thats where your focus point was. Next time find a good focus point on one of the leaves. Since you are shooting with a wide aperture you need to be aware of your depth of field. DOF can make or break a photo, especially for such extreme close ups like this.
