Ok...Im kinda unsure about the legal issues when it comes to photography.

If you take a photo of someone in public...do you need a release? Even if it is just for your own portfolio? What about putting it on somewhere like this, to have people look at?

Same thing other items, like lets say a car from a car show, or a building downtown. And what if you have people in the background? What about the car or building itself?

What about if its a barn or something you can see from a public road? Do you have to get permission to even put it on your internet portfolio or share it with your online friends? Again, no profit or selling going on.

I dont do any of this professionally...its just a hobby, but Im very unsure about it all.

it depends on the country ... in Europe you would be safe in doing so!

For the most part, as long as you are on public property and you are not selling the image...you should be OK.

at 13k posts mike you can hardly say your a random guy on a website .

I agree with though, from public you will be ok for the most part.

I'm no expert, but what I have heard in regards to photographs of people is you only need a model release if you are using the image to advertise something, whether it be a product, place, service, cause, or anything else. In other avenues you should be alright (so long as the image was obtained legally), such as selling the photo as your own art or a piece of photojournalism.

Also, children may be a different story, I am not sure on that one.

in Europe, if the people in the image are not the main theme, you do not need a release in any case, if i am not mistaken.

if the child is the the main subject or contributes considerably to the image, then you could display it, but not sell it. but not because it is a child.. that would apply to any person. you should prbabyl get a release from the parents first.

Best to consult the blood suckers first ! You can use them in your portfolio you canNOT sell them without a relece you can post them on the net but if they demand you remove it you had better do it fast !
The only time you dont need a relece is for "media only"and even they will get permission from parents if possible when taking news worthy shots of children "from personal experiances"

Not correct in the U.S. As stated previously you cannot use them for advertising purposes. That does NOT mean that you cannot sell them, without a release.
