Lens cleaning (cloth & solution)

My daughter put a chubby, oily finger print on filter of my 17-40.

I had some lens cleaning solution + lens cloth that I got when I purchased an old kit ... I used that.

The solution, or the cloth left streaks.
The solution didn't seem to dry without leaving blobs of "residue".
The cloth itself was kind of "fuzzy". I ended up using cloth for my glasses to rub out the blobs of "residue" after it dried.

What do you guys use to clean your lens? I'm using B+W MRC filter so am guessing that multi-coating requires something different/special?

I did a search of B&H ... looks like I only have two choices out of the 4? Two of them are not available for shipping - high alchohol content?

Any recommendation for the solution and cloth? I would hate to use wrong chemicals that end up removing the coating of filter.

I have the feeling that it was just a bit of smudge that needed a bit of elbow grease to wipe clean. These coated lenses and (I assume) filters are pretty hard and it would be hard to actually damage them.

Besides the finger print, there was probably a bit of environmental filth on the filter...and when you go to clean it, you smudge that all around. They usually need to be cleaned and wiped thoroughly before that all comes off.

As for the lens cloths...I know what you mean. I have some of those 'fuzzy' ones and I never use them for a wet cleaning...only dry wiping.

Looks like lens cleaning is going to be more confusing then deciding on lens.

My glasses cleaning cloth does not feel "microfiber", but it works very well. It feels more velvety.

Sounds good. Don't forget to blow the loose dirt off first.

For streaks left behind I have lense tissue. Polishes it right out.
